Cordillera Blanca

Go to map

A few hundred km north of Lima is the Cordillera Blanca, one of the world's most popular mountaineering areas. Cordillera Blanca is a National Park. Mount Huascaran (6768m) is Peru's highest mountain. The whole area is dominated by superb mountain ranges, glaciers and glacier-lakes like Laguna de Llanganuco. In the Cordillera Blanca lies one of the most famous mountains of the world: the Artesonraju (6025 m). Probably you've never heard of it, but for sure you've seen it: it is used in the intro of every Paramount movie.

The city of Huaraz lies the centre of the Cordillera Blanca and a good starting point for trekkings and excursions.
