Tacna is situated in the entire south of Peru, only 35 km from the border with Chile. Tacna has a population of about 150,000. The city lies close to the Atacama desert and in summer it can get very hot. Fortunately it is a clean and pleasant place with lots of shade. Especially the downtown area with the palm-tree promenade and the shady Plaza de Armas are worth a visit.
