Nazca is situated in the department of Ica, on the shores of the river
Nazca. It is a quiet desert town with a population of about 50,000. The
dry valley is irrigated by an ancient pre-Inca aquaduct. Most people
will know Nazca from the famous Nazca
Lines. The city also gives its name to the so-called Nazca Plate, a continental plate in the
Pacific before the South American coast, responsible for creating the Andes.
